Abigail, owner of Poppylarity, uses vintage tablecloth fabric to create very unique baby, toddler and preschool dresses. Many of the dresses are one-of-kind creations using the retro floral print tablecloths from the 1940s through the 1970s. The dresses can have either a dainty feminine 1940 floral feel or a vibrant fun retro print of the 1960s. Abigail says, "Moms love the tablecloths of the past. But with small children running around the house, many do not want to display them on their tables.
Either their kids are too hard on the table d?cor or moms do not have the time for the washing and ironing required. I am offering them a fun alternative to enjoy the prints."Her featured style is the sleeveless spring and summer dress with an empire waist and gathered skirt. They are roomy enough to wear sleeveless or with some type of undershirt or blouse. Many of her customers add cardigan sweaters to the dresses. One of Abigail's signature details is the fully lined bodice which gives the dress a better drape on the body.
Children also love the dresses for their homemade uniqueness and the softness of the vintage tablecloths. Most dresses are either cotton or linen fabric softened by time. Some moms need two dresses because their daughters insist on wearing the first dress everyday.Another style debuting this spring was inspired from a vintage apron. Abigail takes vintage fabrics found at flea markets and estate sales to make dresses with two vibrant colored kick pleats in the front. "Many vintage aprons have great dressmaker details to take inspiration from," says Abigail, "Women, of the past, used aprons to practice their dressmaker skills before moving on to sewing skirts and dresses." Some other baby gift items available are burp cloth sets, blanket and baby bonnets made from vintage embroidery and laces.Three years ago Abigail started Poppylarity, in Yuba City, CA, by making decorative pillows from vintage linens.
On a whim, she made a dress from a tablecloth and showed it to a friend with two daughters. The friend then bought 5 more. Since then her dresses have been hugely popular at antique faires across Northern California. Many Northern California children's boutiques also carry her items including Tosca and Stars in Murphys, CA. Her designs can be bought online at www.poppylarity.com.Abigail has a degree in Business Management from USF and worked as a project manager in a corporate office furniture company for 7 years before leaving the industry to stay home with her two boys.
Her inspiration comes from her mom who created most of her clothing when she was small and a love of old fabrics..
7 Things You Need For Fall/Winter 2006
What do you need to stay with fashionable throughout Fall and Winter 2006?
1. Animal prints
Animal prints may skip a year or two, but they will always be back. The hottest prints to go for are the tiger prints,
leopard and zebra prints. This season, wear them with monotones. Wear one animal
print piece with black, dark denim or neutral separates.
Pair the gorgeous
animal print dresses with opaque tights.
If you rather test the waters, go for the animal
print pumps or bags to get into the coming season's mood.
2. Wallpaper prints
The other prints to look at would be the florals, or prints that would look great on wallpaper.
Dubbed the wallpaper print dresses.
Teri Hatcher and Halle Berry looked stunning in large floral prints that we might associate with an
house proud aunt's living room wallpaper...
Why Do Men Love Leather Mini Skirts?
It may seem like a fairly unimportant question, but have you ever thought about why men love leather mini skirts so much? Of course, there is the obvious answer that has something to do with the actual amount of a woman's body that is left showing by a mini skirt verses the amount of the body that is left up to the man's imagination. Or it could be because of a fantasy that has previously established itself deep in the mind of a particular man. Or it could be because of the prehistoric notion of leather and some ingrained instinct that draws a man to the supple, smooth surface. But whatever the reason is why men go wild over mini skirts, they are a definite hit!
Mini skirts have been around for years, and they never quite seem to go out of style. Of course, there are different arenas when a mini skirt is probably inappropriate, generally in any work place or public areas where your mini skirt is little more than a band of fabric that covers one the bare minimum.
However,...

Daniel P. Quinn to Appear at Ivanhoe Artists Event for Book Signings of Organized Labor
(ContentDesk) April 19, 2006 -- Organized Labor by Daniel P. Quinn is a wonderful book of poems. His language is very specific and his images powerful. There are poems that evoke old New York and also poems that address recent issues we face today in the world since 9/11. Most of all the poems capture the daily struggle of a man who is coming to terms with who he is by his sensitive observations of past and present influences and by the humor of everyday life. Also recommended: The Complete Poems...
