New World Record Established for Most People Dressed as Smurfs

San Francisco, CA (ContentDesk) May 24, 2006 -- 290 people from across the U.S. established the first world record for Most People Dressed as Smurfs this past Sunday during San Francisco's famous Bay to Breakers foot race.
In establishing the record, participants donned traditional Smurf and Smurfette attire, complete with blue face paint, white pants or skirt, blue shirt and white hat. Organizers of the event aptly dressed as Papa Smurf, the 542 year-old village leader who wore red trousers and a red cap. During the race, Smurfs took turns pushing a 12 foot tall Magic Mushroom (Smurf Cottage) outfitted with Smurf beverages, tunes and a DJ dressed as the notorious villain Gargamel.

Known today as Smurf to Breakers, the world record attempt was conceived by three graduates of Stanford Business School as a way to have fun while also raise money for local charities. Today, thanks to the generous contributions from Goldenpalace.com, the #1 Internet Casino and Poker Room made famous for its outrageous eBay purchases, money will go to Lucile Packard Foundation for Childrens Health.
Local San Francisco businesses, Filllore Grill, Asqew Grill and Ace Boot Camp have also made contributions to the foundation.
The Smurfs were created in 1958 by 16-year-old Belgium cartoonist named Pierre Culliford also known as Peyo. In 1981 Smurfs traveled to the U.S.

and were popularized by an NBC series that ran for 256 episodes earning two Emmys..
